Tom Sawyer July 10, 11 and 12


We are getting close! Just a few days until you can see Crest Area Theatre’s Summer 2015 production, “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.” Our show location is the Performing Arts Center on the campus of Southwestern Community College in Creston, IA. Six fantastic kids and 14 wonderful adults play the roles of the great (and not so great) people from Hannibal. Friday the 10th and Saturday the 11th performances are at 7:00 p.m., and Sunday July 12 is a matinee at 2:00 p.m. All seats $8.00 at the door. Tom hopes to see you there!

Tom Sawyer Auditions May 26 and 28


Crest Area Theatre announces auditions for adults and kids! We will present The Adventures of Tom Sawyer on July 10, 11, and 12. Auditions are next week, Tues. and Thurs., May 26 and 28. Time is 6:30 pm in the Performing Arts Center on the SWCC campus (YMCA building).

Kids: We’re looking for 5 boys and 1 girl, ages 11 – 14: Tom Sawyer, Huck Finn, Sid Sawyer, Ben Rogers, Joe Harper and Becky Thatcher.

14 Adults, all ages, including Aunt Polly, Crazy Joe, Judge Thatcher, and others.

This is a regular play, rather than a musical. All community members are welcome to audition! Hope to see you next week.

Dec. 5, 6 and 7 Holiday Show Only $5!


Before the busy holiday season is upon us, be sure to schedule in Crest Area Theatre’s (CAT) special Christmas gift to our communities: $5 per person productions of “The Regifters”!

Performances will be December 5th and 6th at 7 p.m., and December 7th at 2 p.m., at the Southwestern Community College Performing Arts Center in Creston, IA. These discounted tickets (normally $12) will be sold at the door.

Cast for “The Regifters” Announced

The cast has been chosen and rehearsals have begun for the upcoming Crest Area Theatre (CAT) comedy production, “The Regifters.” CAT congratulates its regional community cast members: Nancy Ferber, Rod Tostenson, Pam Hoffman, Joe Larson, Molly Ternus, Ronn Vandevender, Angie Rounds, Bill Mullin, and Julia Weisshaar-Mullin.

According to the play’s directors, Jerry Huffman and Kelly Franklin, “The Regifters” is a show about the commercial side of Christmas, gone bad. It is a funny play about 3 families who continue re-gifting a Christmas present, thinking it is junk. They soon learn it is a very valuable item, and the chase begins to get it back.

Performances will be December 5th and 6th at 7 p.m., and December 7th at 2 p.m., in the Southwestern Community College Performing Arts Center in Creston, IA. As a special Christmas gift to all CAT’s wonderful supporters, the price of admission will be only $5 for each show!

“The Regifters” is written by Robert Lynn and produced in cooperation with Heuer Publishing, Cedar Rapids, Ia.

Auditions Set For Oct. 7 and 9

Calling all area actors! Four adult men and five adult women are needed for Crest Area Theatre’s (CAT) upcoming holiday production, The Regifters! Auditions are Tuesday, October 7, and Thursday, October 9, 2014. Both auditions will be held at 7 p.m. in a location to be determined on the Southwestern Community College campus.

Performances are scheduled for December 5 – 7, 2014. Click here for a play synopsis. In addition to cast members, there is always a need for volunteers for set design and construction, lighting, sound, costumes, make up, and much, much more.

Crest Area Theatre is excited to be collaborating with the Southwestern Community College Theatre Club on this production. News: Holiday Show Scheduled Dec 5-7


Crest Area Theatre has officially set the dates for a fun holiday production in December 2014. Be sure to save some time on December 5, 6 and/or 7 to attend The Regifters!

Here is what it’s about: When a couple “regifts” a not-so-great Christmas present, then finds out it’s worth a fortune, they will stop at nothing to get it back. But they’re not the only ones who rewrapped it! In the mad pursuit to reclaim the gift, everyone who gave it away learns about friendship, real wealth, and the value of a gift truly given.

Performances will take place at the SWCC Performing Arts Center in Creston, IA. More details will be released as the show gets closer.
